On Wednesday Feb 13 2019, 19-year-old rapper YNW Melly was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Melly has been accused of killing two of his closest friends, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, in fatal shootings last year. Following the news of his arrest, social interest in his breakout song “Murder on My Mind” has risen because of the suspicious and ‘coincidental’ lyrics. A Few people have speculated that it is for this very reason why the crimes where committed, to gain attention and increase the rappers stature, others have suggested it was a ritual killing. Let’s bare in my mind that the rapper has not yet been proven guilty of these crimes.
The Song has now reached No. 1 on the U.S. Apple Music chart, according to Chart Data. When the news of double-murder charge came out, people thought “Murder On My Mind” was a confession to the murders. The song was however released in March 2017, and the murders took place in October 2018. This has led people to now speculate if it was premeditated to boost the sales of the song. Very rarely have such vivid lyrics coincided with reality, in fact it’s rare that a rapper passionately visualise killing his friend in such a passionate intimate manner via a song. Melly is still in police custody for the crimes and has been refused bail suggesting that the police have strong evidence against the rapper.
